Dragonfly Forest Blog Zelda and Fall Adventures!

This past Tuesday brought us two new super fun activities to the Spectrum in Asheville! The kids got to choose from the mystical Zelda group, or the Fall Fest and Nature Walk group! In the Zelda group the kids got to make their own cardboard swords and shields just like in the game! Next they had to construct their hat and crowns so they could really embody the characters! They were very well made and extremely creative! Once they had their tools they went outside to play a real life version of the game!

In the Fall Fest and nature walk group the kids go to paint some really awesome looking pumpkins! Their creativity really shined through! Then they got to go outside on a nature walk! It was really fun! We found leaves, acorns, and some squirrels!

Towards the end of the session all of the interns and kids played everyone's favorite game...Red Light, Green Light! It was one of the highlights of the day.

Dragonfly Forest Blog Relay Races and Pirates! Oh My!

    Hello West Chester!

As the weeks go on The Spectrum at West Chester keeps getting better and better. This week was another great success! We played a lot of different games and the activities were very creative. Our interns Andrea, Rob, and Jill led the activity Race to the Finish. This activity consisted of a variety of relay race games. It included an egg race relay where the children tried to balance their plastic eggs while racing around cones. It also included a relay game of catch where the children and their partner threw the ball back and forth to one another as they raced up and down the lines to see who can get there first! Our other activity, Pirate Party, was held by our interns Bridget, Ali, and Jessica. The kids got to make eye patches, play a game with pirate's treasure, and make pirate crafts! Toward the end of the program all the children played musical chairs. It was an energy filled week and we look forward to the remaining weeks at The Spectrum! Keep checking in for more blog posts!

Dragonfly Forest Blog At Haverford Fall Brings Fun

Back for another week of fun, The Haverford Spectrum had some crazy times last week!  Not only were there Superheroes flying around our campus keeping everyone safe, but there was also a royal gathering where a couple princes had their coronation.  There were also a group of talented artists who worked on the spectacular decorations such as handmade fall wreaths and beautifully ornamented pumpkins for the ceremony.   Here are some pictures below of the wild events!

The superheroes no only got to create their identities and costumes, but they also had to freeze-tag the villains to keep them from causing mischief at the Spectrum.  They also had to collect points by tossing balls through hoops so they could get enough power points  to transform into superheroes.

At the Royal ceremony, the royals had to first design armor to fit the new princes and create the army they would command.  Then they built a fort where they could begin planning their battles.

Last, but certainly not least, were the artists, who combined their skills to create the most dazzling creations ever seen using fresh fall foliage and pumpkins as their medium of choice.

It was incredible to witness this collection of people and activities this past week and we can’t wait to see whats in store for next week!

Dragonfly Forest Blog Monsters and Jungle Animals!

This past Tuesday was a fantastic day at the Spectrum! We enjoyed two very exciting and interesting activities. The first activity was Ahh Real Monsters and the second was Jungle Fever! In Ahh Real Monsters the kids got to transform each other in to really cool mummies! Then they got to create their own monster creatures, there were some very creepy creations running about! The highlight of the group was getting to go outside and play goblin, goblin, ghost [played like duck, duck, goose] this was a lot of high energy fun!

In Jungle Fever the kids got make their own jungle animal masks, there were a lot of wild jungle cats! Next they make some really cool paper plate snakes! They were so realistic! Then they had a jungle themed dance party. When the person in charge of the music stopped it they had to strike a pose related to their animal and let out a wild sound! This group had a lot of fun with their dance party, even the interns were getting down.

Dragonfly Forest Blog West Chester Spectrum Begins!

The beginning of the West Chester Spectrum started out amazing! We were so eager to start a new semester with our new campers and so pleased to have some of our returning campers back. Our first week went extraordinarily well. All the kids had a great time playing our new activities and the interaction with the other campers was great! This past week we held activities called Rumble in the Jungle and Under the Sea. The kids loved the animal themes. Our first week we had activities called Dinosaur Discoveries and Outer space Adventures. During this session we made our own dinosaur masks and pretended to be dinosaurs, decorated our own planets, and played an outer space version of duck duck goose, among many other games and activities. We are eagerly awaiting next week to come so we have that much more to talk about. I am hoping to have some pictures on our blog next week. Thanks for reading and make sure to keep checking in for more posts!

Dragonfly Forest Blog Superheroes and Talent Shows!

    Hello Everyone!

This past Tuesday was another great session at the Spectrum in Asheville! We has two awesome groups to choose from, both with lots of fun things to do! The first choice was Superheroes and making play dough, and the second was a talent show!

In the superheroes and play dough group the kids got to color a mask of their favorite superhero and wear it! I saw some really cool superheros out there, Thor, Ironman, and the Hulk! After the coloring fun was over the kids then got to make their own play dough. It was goopy, and colorful, and fun!

     Play Dough!

In the Talent Show group the kids got to decide on a talent that they wanted to perform and draw a picture of it, then at towards the end of the session they performed their show! We have some very talented kids at the Spectrum! There was some singing, some dancing, some bubble blowing, and some annoying orange!

Everyone report to the staring line! In the Mario Kart group there was a lot of fun going on! First we started by coloring our favorite Mario characters, there was Toad, Mario, Luigi, and the vicious Bowswer! Once all the characters were colored we went outside to make a real life Mario Kart track, with all of the pitfalls, and enhancements that you see in the game. We also made our very own Karts to race around the track! There was some serious competition and everyone was a winner!

Best Pictures Ever!Look at that Kart!

Lets go on an adventure! In Forest Creature Creator the kids got to go outside and collect supplies to make crazy, cute, creatures! There were lots of pinecones, acorns, and of course pipe cleaners involved! All of the kids got to show their creative sides while while having a lot of fun! Once the creatures were created it was time for...BEETLE TAG! This game was super fun, the person who was "it" had to chase everybody down and tag them, and when you got tagged you had walk on your hands and feet and be a beetle!

    crafty crafts!Look at those beetles!

All in all this Tuesday was an awesome time! It is wonderful to have everyone back and enjoying our time together. We cannot wait until next week! Who knows what kinds of fun stuff is in store! See you then!
